Halloween Tonight

If you haven't got the message yet, then here it is-I'm not bringing food (sorry) so bring your own and share it out. And people are meeting at 5.30 at the Hyde park corner bus stop (the one nearest the skate park). You can come later on, but nobody will be there to show you the way-don't miss the stop in the dark!
See you all there, I've just been carving pumpkins and am uber excited!

Halloween fun times

The weather looks like it's going to be dry, so it's all go on our amazing halloween festival of delight. Woohoo!
The plan is this:
Everyone heads out on the bus to Caley, we have some food, do some night time bouldering, sit about on bouldering mats, chat, get a bit merry and generally have a good time. We might have a fire, and there will be lots of pumpkin and candle related decoration... When we get cold/bored/tired we go home. Simple.
So, bring the following:

Warm clothes
Climbing shoes
Bouldering mat
Warm clothes
Headtorch or two
A few beers
Warm clothes
Pumpkins (optional)
Warm clothes (bring lots of warm clothes)
Tea, if you like tea
Some eating implements would be useful, so we don't have to throw away plastic ones...

If you have a lantern or similar then bring it, also welcome will be blankets to sit on/keep warm.
To get to Caley catch the X84 bus, and get off at the first Caley stop after the boulders on your left (keep your eyes out). If in doubt, there will be a crew heading out at 6:00pm, meeting at the bus stop at Hyde Park corner. When you get to Caley, the directions to where we will are will be obvious...
The bus will be £2.50, and the food which I am cooking will be a further £2.50. So that rounds up to a measly fiver for a whole evening of japes and jolities.
If you want to come, please facebook/text (07772730190)/email me your name and tell me you want to come so I can cook the right ammount of food. Bring money on the night. (don't forget)
See you there,
Sam
PS:Bring lots of warm clothes!

Crookrise Trip Cancelled

I'm afraid the Crookrise trip has been cancelled as our driver dropped out and we couldn't find a replacement. It is going to rain anyway, so not such a bad thing... If you've paid up already then hunt us down and we will return your cash to you.
Sorry about that people,
Sam

First Aid

The Wilderness Medical Society have asked me to let you know about their first aid qualification. It is a recognized qualification and the one you'd need to get for your ML, SPA etc. The cost is 60 quid which covers 2 days of teaching and training materials(around 100 usually.) The course is taking place on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th of November. If your interested get on contact with Steve at leedswildernessmedicine@gmail.com before the end of the week.

Next Weekend-The Plan.

Right then, we have made a decision, slightly over a week in advance. Wow. This is the plan people:

On Saturday (the 27th) there wil be a public transport trip to Giggleswick South out in the Dales. It's a cool crag in a beautiful area and has sport climbs (bolted) from grades F4+ to F7b; so a pretty good spread for most people. It also has a funny name. It will cost you whatever the train out there costs (around a tenner I think, cheaper with a student rail card). There is a bit of a walk from the station, but only half an hour, so I'm sure everyone will survive. If you want to go, then /facebook/email Sean (check committe pages), and he will be able to give you info on times etc when he's decided.

Then, on Sunday we have a minibus and we're going trad climbing at the lovely Crookrise. It's yorkshire gritstone and you just know it is going to be lovely. Signing up/paying for this will all occur next Wednesday (the 24th) at, you guessed it, the Packhorse. It will set you back a mere fiver bring money, 'cos no cash no climbing. Only one bus is going, so it will be less busy/crowded/mental than trips have been so far.

Glad to hear there was a big turn out at the wall, and good to see so many people at the Packhorse/Hi Fi. I hope you've all got something planned for the weekend-it's going to be a beauty. If not, get on the forums, find a friend, jump on the bus and get out to Caley-it's going to be sticky! I'm off to the Lakes. Yay!

So what's next then?

Hello all, I hope you've recovered from the Northumberland madness. It doesn't hurt when I breath any more, and I only slightly ache, so that's good. I'm sure everyone who went, and those who didn't, are just dying to know what jolities are to come for the club, so here is the plan as it stands:

This Wednesday we will be having the usual Packhorse session, followed by the ubiquitous Hi Fi. For those of you new to Leeds, this is a proper funky little club with good music, a good crowd and proper cider. Wicked.

This weekend is a (much needed) weekend off as far as club trips go, so find yourself a partner and head to the crag, this time without a million other students getting in your way and being lairy...

Next Sunday (the 28th) we are going to have a day trip to somewhere fairly local, venue undecided. It may be limestone, it may be gritstone; either way it'll be ace. Keep an eye out for details, and we will be taking your money and writing your names down on the wednesday before (the 24th). There will only be one bus going, so it shall be slightly less mad than the trips up until now. Phew.

It just so happens that Halloween falls on a Wednesday, and it just so happens that we have a very cool plan for some halloween celebrations-it is slightly weather permitting (OK, totally weather permitting) but it will be awesome. It shall remain a (spooky) secret, but suffice to say I'm so excited about it that a little bit of wee almost came out.... The moral of the story is that you should keep Halloween free in your diary, because what we have lined up is more fun than dressing up as a pumpkin and getting shit-faced in town.

After that, the next trip is to North Wales. We will be staying in a climbers hut on the edge of Snowdonia, with the most amazing climbing right there on our doorstep. I will post more details nearer the time, so keep your little eyes and ears open.

After that we may run another day trip but, you guessed it, I haven't decided yet... It is likely that any other trips will be more flexible public transport affairs so that they are easily cancelled/changed to take account of the weather, it being nearer to winter and all.

Finally, exciting news-we are hosting the second screening ever (like ever!) of Psyche, a new climbing film which is about to come out. Also, the maker, Alistair Lee is coming to introduce it, and give a little chat about the making-if you haven't yet heard of the fim, then mark my words, it looks amazing-highly likely to get you uber psyched for climbing. The film is being premiered at Kendal, then here, with us. Wow. Here is a like to a trailer to get you all salivating: https://www.posingproductions.com/video.php?form_action=play&video_id=101

Finally, as if that wasn't just too much fun already, we are going to have our traditional Christmas Celeih before we all go home for the holidays. Where will it be? How much is it? What will it entail? How do you spell Celeih? No, I don't know either, but it is definately happening, and when I find out, I shall tell you all without (too much) delay.

So there we go, a rather lengthy ramble on our upcoming events. Definately enough for now. Hope you're full of the joys of the Autumn, and see you all soon.

Much love,
Sam

Northumberland...

Hello one and all. Sorry for taking a little while to get this up here, postal strike and all, you know the story.... Here is the plan for Northumberland:
We are meeting at the UNION STEPS, at 7 o'clock in the evening. That's 19:00 hours, 24 hour clock fans. We are going to leave very shortly after 7, like at 5 past or something, so don't be late. On the way we will sto of at the chip shop in Morpeth, so you might want some money for that.

Bring with you the following:

Climbing gear
Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat (not essential)
Food
Clothes
Plenty of Beer/whatever you fancy
Bouldering mat if you have one
Money for the pub

I think that is sufficient. We will probably watch the rugby on Saturday night if, that is, the pub has a TV. We are likely to get back fairly late on Sunday night, but not rediculously so. Probably somewhere between 7 and 10, but don't quote me on either time!
See you there,
Sam
PS:It is the UNION steps.

North Face Shop Evening Discount bonanza!

The North Face shop in the town centre are having a 15% off evening on thursday (11th October) from 6pm - 9pm. There might be some free beer and wine going too, to loosen those purse-strings!

If you don't know where the shop is, it's in the Victoria Quarter, down a side-road between Harvey Nicks and Debenhams.

Otley Run

It's Otley run time people-this Wednesday (that's the 10th) starting at Woodies in Headingly at 3 oclock. In the afternoon. I think we are going to lash everyone together with rope or something like that, so bring a belt for that. If you don't know where woodies is then find out. If you can't make it for three then join in whenever you want-give someone a ring and find out where we are.
Lastly I have been asked by the Union to tell you all to be wary of drink spikers-there are some weirdos out there, so watch your drinks, and look after each other, and everything will be lovely, drunken fun.
See you all there...

Northumberland...

We are going to be signing up for the Northumberland trip this Wednesday at 9 o'clock. This is because we have the Otley run next Wednesday, and so the chances of us making any kind of list is very slim. Bring money, as no money no trip! There will be lots of demand, so get there early people!
