This Term's Fun-times

Well well, a new year, new climbing resolutions all round and I'm avoiding revision, so here's the vague plan for this year's trips:
We're going to kick things off with the Lakes trip, which is the 8th-10th of February, sunshine isn't quite guaranteed, but whatever the weather, there is a multiplicity of things to do-escape to dry rock on the coast/inland, go scrambling, go walking, go gear shopping, eat breakfast, the usual things.
Then the other weekend trip is to the Roaches in the western peak, which is the first weekend of March. In between them there will be some stuff happening, but what, and how much depends on whether there's any ice in, and therefore whether I/we can be bothered to take a minibus to clog up some crag somewhere. I do promise however that there will be a trip to the peak, maybe even two-and we'll drop you off at different crags to avoid the whole sheep factor. Will it work? I'll be suprised.....
For extra-curricular fun, we've got Niall Grimes coming to give a talk/slideshow. I promised him I'd let you all know who he is, in case you don't already-he's the bloke behind the new BMC guidebooks (you know, the good ones), he used to write for High in the days when there was quality content in UK magazines, he features on Hard Grit, and is an all round good bloke and funny guy on the British scene. Oh, and he's from Ireland. If you want to gauge his humour, then check out his blog here: http://www.thebmc.co.uk/blogs/guidebooks/index.html It should entertain non climbers too, so bring your friends. I'll update on the venue/date nearer the time...naturally.
We also have Dennis Gray, one time club member, local bloke from back in the day, and he's been climbing for longer than most people about, 60 years I believe... He also was the general secretary and national officer of the BMC at various times, and has been on the worldwide scene for a long time. As a result he knows just about everybody who is anybody, and his stock of stories is pretty massive. He's going to be showing some slides, talking, and even doing some singing I believe, it should be a good talk, and will interest any climber.
Then, on the horizon, not so distant, is the Annual dinner, which may occur on a three day weekend, may involve going to Scotland, and will almost certainly involve the committee cooking a massive meal for everyone. Fun times.
Good luck with the exams, and expect more info soon, when I get my act together....
Sam
