Club news......(cheesy jingle......)
Hey all, hope your fine and dandy, heres one to confirm things for the lakes trip this weekend and give you the lowdown generally.
Unfortunatly (or fortunatly?) the conditions in scotland for winter climbing seem to be coming pretty good at the moment so a lot of those who have helped muchly in the first semester will be up there playing in the snow and on the ice, rather than hanging around on a cliff in the lakes. However, the university hut in the duddon valley is reserved for us with Will and Kat of the committee going. You will still be able to borrow gear (as always) and generally have a spiffing weekend but this change from the norm of this year will just mean you will have to be independent and decide what to do for your selves... If you want some suggestions for what to do come have a word with someone in the know at the packhorse on wednesday. But for some pointers, bring a guidebook, borrow some of the various scramble books from the Edward Boyle or a map from Will. For those of you knew to the sport, mountaineering is more than just about rock climbing so this could be an ideal weekend to practice your navigation skills and rope work on scrambles in preperation for our Scotland trip at the end of the year!
If you intend to come please come to the packhorse on wednesday where you will be informed who is driving over in their car aswell as various other bits and bobs for the rest of the semester. There will be no minibus on this trip so spaces are limited. On that note its probably worth warning that trips this semester for beginners will be limited so it is even more important that you get out when you can and practice... ideally with someone willing and experienced :o). Have a word with the leeds wall if you want to do a course or search the UKC directories for local contacts.
Also, we have the AGM coming up (I think its just after the easter holidays but ill confirm) when the club elects its new committee. More details on this will be given in the packhorse on wednesday but if you are thinking of running for a position, have a chat to the current committee who im sure will fill you in on what is involved and offer words of advice.
There will be no official social this week but Im sure some people will still be heading out though.
That be all for now but see you at the packhorse on wednesday,
Toodle pip!
