About LUUMC

Hello and welcome,

Flying Buttress Direct

This is the website for Leeds University Union Mountaineering Club (LUUMC), one of the most active clubs at Leeds Uni. This section of the website is designed to give you a taste of what we're about. An overview of our socials, meets, comittee and some free basic rescources about what's good to climb round Leeds, and whats not! When you're done reading it all (or you get bored!), don't forget to check out our photo gallery, or sign up to the forum to find out what's going on and arrange some cragging trips with other web enabled climbers!

So what are we about? We like to climb, a lot. We cater for everyone, from "I have never touched a rock before in my life", right through to "I can climb E6 with both hands tied behind my back" (although none of us can!). To cater for the diverse tastes of the club a range of trips, both day and weekend, are run throughout the year, both near and far. And like we say if your completely new to the sport there will always be someone round, willing to give you a helping hand or point you in the right direction (generally up). Even if we're not running a trip on a weekend there will always be peole taking themselves off somewhere, so remember to come down the pub to thumb a lift.

Mont Blanc Summit

But we're not just about crag climbing either; we encourage our members to aim for bigger and better things, from snow and ice climbing in Scotland in the winter months to full blown Alps trips and even stuff futher afield than that. You really do get out what you put in. We also enter BUSA every year and don't do badly at that either, our members have gone off to Font in France to hone their bouldering skills and sun drenched Spain to do some bolt clipping. If you want it we really do got it!

If you're interested and want to actually talk to real people, we have a social every week from 9pm at the Packhorse Pub - opposite Civil Engineering - we're upstairs on either the right or left but normally not straight on, there being a wall there.

Anyway enough yapping, go enjoy the site, chat on the forums, meet new mates and climb 'til your fingers go numb!
