Hello everyone, we’re back!

There’s lots and lots of information to pass onto members old and new which I will post in the forums later today. Click on “Forum” in the bar to the left, select General Chit Chat and look out for the posts with the titles starting NEW INFORMATION”. Rather than clog up the home page I’ll give you the most important points here:

LUUMC meet every Wednesday in The Packhorse pub (opposite the engineering buildings) in the room upstairs on the left at about 9. The first super duper fun social will be on the 29th September. Get yourselves down there! There’ll be loads of information about what trips we’re running, how to go about signing up to them and what the club’s all about as well as a chance to meet everyone. It’s going to be a lot of fun, especially as the two social secs will most likely ensure that it is followed by a good old fashioned night out (can we go to HiFi please, Steve and Dunc?). Sign up for the first trips will be done at this meeting so if you want to come to either Stanage Edge (2nd October) or Brimham Rocks (3rd October) then you must come down. It’s first come first serve! Don’t worry if you’re completely new to climbing, on the first trips we’ll be looking to pair novices with experienced members to “show you the ropes” (sorry).

We’ll also be at the International Fresher’s Fair (Friday 17th September 5-6:30pm in the Riley Smith Hall) and the Sports Fair (21st and 22nd September 10am-4pm) so come down and ask us any questions you might have.

Hey guys,

So our time on the committee is drawing to a close, just a few more of these e-mails to tolerate before we hand over the reins, despite this still a lot of stuff to share with you.

Firstly sign up for the annual dinner trip to North Wales will be this weekend at the Packhorse, the trip is on the bank holiday weekend, though we are only going for two out of the three days, leaving on the Friday and back on the Sunday. The cost for the weekend will be £25 and as usual this will cover transport, accommodation and basic food. As this is a mountain trip opposed to a crag trip we would like you to sign up in pairs, if you have any difficulty finding a partner post on the facebook group, on the forums or ask down the pub and someone will be able to help set you up. We’re especially keen to hear from drivers as currently minibuses are hard to come by.

Next is the annual dinner in Leeds, where we all sit down together and share a bottle of wine – or 6 – this year it is being held at an Italian down in the centre of town and will be followed by a night out in Leeds. Next the tech tops – Sean is selling these beautifully crafted fleeces for £30 a saving of £10 on their RRP and they come embroided with the LUUMC, they are so so cool.. If you are interested they will be on sale this Wednesday at the pub, we’re trying to move them along quick cos I want mine before I go to the Alps.

Hey guys,

First and most importantly the AGM is tomorrow (Wednesday), please if you have the time come down, we need to elect a new committee and this can only be done if we have a good turn-out, and as much as I enjoy filling your lives with a bit of wit every week someone has to take over this job. We are meeting a bit earlier – 8:30 so we can get it started for nine, so we can commence the drinking early to celebrate the new committee!

We will also have an ultra quick review of what has gone on behind the scenes this year, discuss a journal editor for next year and find a replacement web monkey.

Also at the AGM will be the chance to buy some tech tops, Sean has had this project on the go since September and you can finally see the fruit of his loins. I am told they are the bee’s knees and yours for an incredibly discounted price of £30 (If you bought the top, with no embroiding on it would cost £35)

Roaches will depart at around 6pm this Friday from Croner terrace just down from the union as someone has dug it all up to create a “creative space” We could have spent the money better on gear but hey ho. We’ll be back on Sunday, normal arrangements for food, though we won’t be stopping for food on Friday as Matt doesn’t know where the nearest Maccy D is so please eat before you come down.

Hey guys,

Just to let you know what is going on,

This Wednesday there is a sign up for the Roaches Weekend trip away, we’re going to be staying at a hut which will make Tremadog look like a long walk in – and it is actually a cave/castle!! Oh, the climbing is ace too. The trip is the weekend of the 19th-21st March and marks the end of term. Cost will be a bargain £20, and as always this includes accommodation, transport and food.

The other thing, the AGM is this following Wednesday, it’s where we vote in a new committee and afterwards go get drunk, it’d be good if as many of you turn up as possible, we won’t drag it out, there will be a bit of voting and a recap of what we’ve done for the year and then an after party down the Fav.

Paintballing is this weekend and we’ll be in touch soon with the plan!

Finally big party followed by fruity this weekend – in loving memory to Steve Sharland’s dignity it is tight and bright themed.

Hello all,

Ok this week we have a sign up for a trip going on. It is to the lakes, leaving on the Friday night of the 5th and back late Sunday the 7th. Plenty of awesome climbing to be had out there. We will be staying in the uni’s Dalehead hut as is traditional and the cost will be £25 for the weekend as ever including accommodation, transport and food. The climbing is a bit more remote than our previous trips so we’d like you to sign up in climbing pairs just so we know that everyone has someone who knows what they are doing with them.

At the same time there will be signing up for the paintballing vs the hikers going on. This is on the 14th of March, the cost will be £15 which will get you there and in, equipped with a paintball launching implement and 100 paintballs, subsequent paintballs will cost £6 per hundred, though we may see if we can do some kind of deal with them for this. Limited places so get there early, if you don’t make it on to the list we will have a reserve thing going on so don’t worry. There is still a chance!

We also have Ewan’s “how to run away” event coming up on the 2nd of March

AGM has been pencilled in for the 17th March – so if you want to stand for the committee get campaigning, word on the street is there are a few runners for things this year and a good way to reach people would be through this e-mailing list which I control… Preferred bribe is ale!

The LUU Outdoors people are having a social next Tuesday (16th), this means us plus all the other outdoors clubs, plenty of fun to be had down at Hi-fi mixing with them dirty kayakers… Tickets are now on sale at the ARC reception £5 without a LUU Outdoor card, £4 with the card, and the card costs 50p. The AGM is coming up and will be in the last few weeks before the end of term, if you are interested in running for something ask one of the committee what it has been like this term and what the job entails. More details on that to follow on that subject.

Some stuff for this term.

We have four trips this term, one this coming weekend to go to North Scotland winter climbing, a very numbers limited trip. Sign up will be this Wednesday, or get in touch with me, it will cost £60 all in and be from this Friday night to next Monday night. It’s a trip only for those with winter experience. If you are not sure if this is you please ask and someone will advise as best we can.

We also have a weekend trip to the lakes, a day trip to the peaks and a weekend trip to the roaches. More info will come out for this nearer the time.

We have got some socials coming on this term. We’re going Ice skating, playing paintballing against the hikers and don’t forget the weekly social at the packhorse!
We’ve also got some cool tech tops coming out and a photography competition in the works (more next week)

What is up dog?

Anyway, stuff you should know.

For those of you coming on the Tremadog trip, we’re meeting at the union this Friday at 6, bring the standard kit. This means sleeping bag, roll mat, climbing gear, toiletries, plate, knife, fork, warm clothes, waterproofs, more warm clothes, walking boots if you want in case we go up a mountain due to poor weather, beer, money for fish and chip on Friday night, Eric’s cafe and pub. Oh and lycra is apparently mandatory (Happy now Steve?)

Christmas Celidh tickets go on sale this week. £10 in advance for all you can (“responsibly”) drink and plenty of dancing, more details can be found here: http://www.luumc.co.uk/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=749 When I say this is the most fun you can have with your clothes on I’m not lying… But if you come naked you’ll still have a good time, promise.

T-Shirts are still being printed, apparently the special ink derived from rhino horn and whale spleen Sean ordered is taking a little longer to come by than normal due to green peace getting all touchy about whaling in the Antarctic (Go Japan), but they will be with us before Christmas, we’re told.
